Right place, right time...

When we decided to use the beautiful weather to have another look at Ára and take a video, we didn't know that we would become lifesavers doing so.
The 5 horses that were supposed to be on the field were nowhere to see when we arrived. First we tought, they were moved to another fence but then we saw that the fence between the field and the forrest was broken so we decided to have a look above the forrest.
Well, there they were, but just 4 of them. We started to take pics and film, when Ingólfur more or less accidentally found the pregnant mare, that was with the youngsters, standing in the river and not able to come out again. She broke through the snow and was more or less caught in that place. Ingólfur went to inform her owners and organise help.
When he came back he brought a halter and we managed to put it on the mare (she didn't like that so much, but had no choice) and when Ingólfur tried to turn her, she managed to climb up out off the river! We didn't think it would be so easy to get her out.
Then the helpers arrived with a lot of ropes, which were thanks god not necessary. The mare looked fine, but was quite hungry. As the horses were not supposed to be in that field, 2 men drove them back down to their own field and fixed the fence so they wouldn't go again.
We hope the best for the mare and her unborn foal, which is hopefully unharmed.
I don't want to think about what would have happened to both of them if we wouldn't have had a look at Ára accidentally...
