Lucky!

When I went to feed our horses in the morning, I didn't know that I'd become quite lucky just short after. Arriving in Saltvík I saw a mare of our stable-neighbour laying and already thought she looked like giving birth. So I might be lucky to see a newboarn foal in a short while.
Well, I fed our horses and did a few more things in the stable, when Gisli arrived. We both had a look at the mare from far away and she was behaving a bit strange, rolling over and definitely not feeling good. So we decided to take a walk and have a look what was going on. Unfortunately I left my camera in the car.
When we arrived, the frontlegs and part of the head were visible. The mare stood up and came towards us, just to lay down in front of us and start pressing again. She seemed quite exhausted already, but no wonder as it was a quite big foal. We called the owner of the mare and waited till she arrived. By then the mare had finally managed to give birth and Gisli cleaned the foal's nose so it could breath properly.
The mare took a short rest and started then immediately to clean her newborn. Just 10 minutes later both were already standing and the foal on the way to the "milk-bar".
As you can imagine I was happy and felt honoured to be witness of this! Not so often you have chance to see that.
