Uninvited guests

came to pay us their visit today, like they already did all summer, eating the delicious, fertilized grass, that was supposed to grow undisturbed.
Unfortunately the fence, which was built quite some years ago to keep the sheep away from Húsavíkland, is more or less broken and not keeping any sheep wanting to go north from their homefarm on the southern side of it.
We've been busy chasing them from our fields during the last years, but they keep coming back and bringing their offspring...
Sadly their owner doesn't care very much about it as they always come home with the biggest lambs. No wonder when they are grazing on our meadows, fertilized, green and sweet.
Hope the community is going to do something about the fence next spring. We already fixed the part close to our stables, but there are a few kilometers left to repair.

Coming home

Vordís and Þrá had spent a few weeks with Geisli frá Sælukoti and we fetched them today after the ultrasound check.
Vordís was ultrasounded pregnant with an about 50 day old foal, which will be a fullsibbling to our Sigtýr. It would be perfect to get a yellowdun mare. But a mare in any colour would be great. Possible colours are black, brown, bluedun and yellowdun, no redbased colours as Geisli is homozygotous for black.
Þrá wasn't ultrasounded in foal, but Geisli was still with them so there's a tiny chance to get another foal. That one would come with a colourguarantee for black.

The ladies joined our foalmares and foals in Haga, where Vordís took over the moment she arrived. Now Snerpa and her brother can tease their grandma a bit.

Horsetrip

But not ours. Iðunn and Loftur started a new trip with a big herd of loose horses and we helped them when they went from Saltvík. When I saw in which direction they went, I asked Ingólfur to stop at a place where I could possibly take some nice pics. Hope you like the one I posted.
Afterwards we checked on our foals and were happy that they are still so tame and interested in people.

Leirhnjúkur

The weather was perfect, the hay already pressed and we had a bit of time. So we decided to take a drive to Mývatnarea and walk at Leirhnjúkur in Krafla.
There were quite some tourists, but it was possible to enjoy severel places without disturbance. It's a magic place, where you are very close to nature and can experience first handed the powers below the surface.
Would be great to go there for a horse photoshooting... Maybe some day... You never know!

Busy, busy, busy

That's what our days have been. Today it was finally possible to rake the hay together and hopefully we'll be able to bring it in soon.
Whilst Ingólfur was busy on the tractor, I checked on our foalmares, which would have been a pleasure, if there wouldn't have been myrads of midges.

Sigtýr

Sigtýr got a long break as he got so thin troughout spring. Today we fetched him from the pasture and put him to the field with Magnús and Skuggi.
We expected quite some action, but there was barely anything eventhough Skuggi and Sigtýr had been castrated rather late. It took a few minutes and squeeks and then Sigtýr had taken over regency.
I like it when horses are so selfconfident, they don't need to show who they are with kicks, biting and rearing, but just through their appearance and mimics.
