Cushion covers

Finally I'm able to show you, what I've been planning and working on in secrecy!
After attending the wonderful workshop with Gígja Einarsdóttir I really had the feeling I should make something out of/with my pictures and after doing a bit of research I found out, that the company Lagður, which sells beautiful cushion covers with pictures taken in Iceland, offers the possibility to order custommade covers with your photographs.
After contacting Elín and a lot of emails and calls, we decided to send 2 pics for test printing and today I got the results. And even more, as Elín tried a bit with one of the pics and I have to admit, it just looks great! But have a look for yourself!
I´m gonna order 15 of the horse with blaze and 15 of the bigger palomino with the mirrorimage. So if you are interested in purchasing one of the cushion covers, please send me a line to karin (at) internet.is
The prize will be 8.000 ISK without sendingcosts.

Foals

On our way back from Laufskálarétt we stopped at the "familyfield" and checked out the foals and mares. Snerpa came right away and greeted me, whilst the other prefered to check out Hjördís, who came with us.
As you can see, she easily connected with both foals.

Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose

And they are, but had a difficult time this year. Late spring and nearly no summer, so it took them some time to get into flower and some haven't opened their buds yet. Hope they'll at least get a good autumn!

Here they are and I attached the names of those I knew. If you'd like to find more information in them, please check out this webpage.

Home and Garden

Alliota

Allgold

Duftzauber 84

Rhapsody in Blue

My namesless miniroses

And last but not least a cutting from my late grandfather's climbing rose which my mum grew for me. No name, but beautiful!

Laufskálarétt

Like the previous 2 years we spent this weekend in a great group of horsepeople, enjoying delicious food, interesting conversations and good horses.
Unlike last year neither did we attend the horseshow in Sauðárkrókur nor did I follow the group on horseback but found myself a decend place to take pictures, which I really enjoyed.
It was fun to see, how many people I actually knew rode by and greeted.
There was a girl really unlucky an fell off her horse in front of the camera, so I now have a very detailed study of that.

Live and let die

This maybe sounds a bit pathetic, but that's the way it is, when you are a sheepfarmer and have to decide, which ones are going to the slaughterhouse and which ones have a future as breedingstock.
Today was this day at Hólmavað and we helped a bit when María, the farmingcounselor came and checked the chosen ones.
In between I detected one of Snilld's lambs and her daughter from last year, which was too small then to be slaughtered. Both of them and the other lamb from this year went to the slaughterhouse. That's the way of life and you have to let them go if you want to eat meat.

Leatherwork

I've always liked to work with leather and I definitely needed a showhalter for taking pics of our horses. But as we have mostly dark horses, a regular black one wouldn't be as much an eyecatcher as I'd like it to be.
Luckily I remembered some fishrod I bought a few years ago and could use it for the noseband of this halter.
Hope you like it as much as I do and if you are interested in getting a custommade showhalter or noseband with fishrod, please send me a line!

Hraunsrétt 2015

After a short night we went on horseback to Hraunsrétt for sorting the sheep.
It's always great fun, especially when you spot a special sheep you've been looking for. Kristján was very fast finding Snilld, which was happy getting some treats immediately and started to beg for more... Strange sheep!
Bensi got around 400 sheep home, but still quite a lot were missing and we hope they'll show up soon.

Göngur II

After collecting sheep for the last 2 days, the big herd was driven down to the valley today.
It's always a pleasure to get men, horses, dogs and sheep back healthy and in good mood. This year the farmers got help from a tourist group from Saltvík and I think everybody was glad to be there. Must be a special experience to be there for the first time.
Snilld and at least one of her rams were spotted and I discovered that she has a lookalike.
Looking forward to sorting tomorrow.

Göngur I

Now it's the time of the year when the sheep are gathered and therefore Ingólfur and a group of other "gangnamenn" rode up to Þeistareykir today.
Ingólfur went with Magnús, Katla and Skuggi, but loaned Gjöf to Bjössi. Everybody was in good mood when they started and even Baldur at the age of 80 joined them again this year.
I think they had quite some longer stops on the way to the hut as it was already dark when they finally arrived. Hope they'll have good weather the next days and the gathering will be successful with not too many sheep left behind. Of course I hope for Snilld and her two lambs to come back already with this first group.
