Birthdaytrip

Just arrived home and already leaving again.
That was the feeling I had, when we left for a weekendtrip to Þeistareykir with our friends Bjössi and Rakel and their kids. Ingólfur, Bjössi and his kids rode the horses up there, while Rakel, Hjördís and i went by car. The weather was perfect, sunshine and a bit rain, rainbows, no dust.
Bjössi and Ingólfur were going to celebrate their birthdays together in the highlands. Fridayevening we had nice dinner, getting familiar with the gasstove, finding out how to organise everything. Went to bed quite early, just to wake up to another perfect day.
After breakfast the others left for a walk up Bæjarfjall to write their names into the sandstonewalls up there. The other birthdayguests arrived soon after lunchtime, bringing coffee and other good things to eat and drink. A few of us went for a nice ride, enjoying the good moldpathes on very good horses. Hjördís is getting more and more courageous, having fun with Berta María, the daughter of Bjössi and Rakel.
When it was time to prepare dinner, the huge grill was lighted and the potatoes put in there. As it was Bjössi's birthday, I thought he wasn't supposed to do all the work, so I took over the grill. I enjoyed that very much and I think, people liked the delicious grilled lambmeat.
After dinner the games started. First we had to lift an empty cereals pack with our mouth, the knees, buttom and hands were not allowed to tough the ground. After the first round, a big piece of the box was taken off and hen the next round started. Krístin Lára had a very special technique to pick up the box, it looked like she made a knott into herself. Well, the guys were not as good as the ladies, noone there managed to go all the way. The ladies had 3 winners, one in each age group ;)
Then it was time for the boot-throwing competition. Not so easy to throw a boot between your legs and over your back and get it in the right direction...
Late, but not too late, everybody went to sleep and soon you could hear one or another snore.

I used the wonderful light the next morning to go for a picturewalk. The sheep were surprised to see me walking around, disturbing their peace. Some stopped to have a look, others just thought it was time for the sheep roundup and ran as fast as they could.

Soon it was time to go home and so we saddled the horses and started along the old road to Vegabúð, where we met the others on their cars with coffee and other refreshments. Hjördís, Berta and Vignir joined us grownups in the ride, but changed to the cars there (except Berta, she wanted to try Emil).
As we didn't like riding on the gravelroad we tried the small track next to the mountains and were rewarded with soft paths. The last part of the trip we went by the new fence down to Húsavíkarea. I can just recommend everybody to go up there, you have a stunning view over Húsavík and Reykjahverfi.

It was a wonderful trip with very nice people. Takk fyrir okkur!
