Solar eclipse

Today there was a near total solar eclipse visible above Iceland. Of course we used the chance and had a look with our pupils.
All primary schools in Iceland were so lucky that Stjörnuskoðunarfélag Seltjarnarness, Stjörnufræðivefurinn and Hótel Rangá gave them eclipse glasses so everybody could watch.
It was partly cloudy when we went down to the harbour. I was lucky to get welder's goggles to put in front of my lens as I of course was too late to buy special equipment for my camera.
I attach a tryout pic, hope you like it.

Animal stablevisitors

The number of animals visiting our horsestable has grown quite a lot during the last weeks. Not only pay the stablecats Brandur and Perla regular visits to our barn, but there are a number of dogs and puppies wandering around.
Alltogether there are 7 dogs on a more or less regular basis around the horses. They are Kató, Fróði, Gutti, Salka, Píla, Lubbi and a sweet Boxerpup.
Whilst Kató already is of the older and wiser generation, the rest of the gang is from a few months to around 1 year old or at least believes to be that age.
Píla and Salka are purebred Bordercollies, both really into herding, but still have to learn a lot. Lubbi is a Bordercollie-Icelandic Sheepdog mix and isn't as fast as the two girls, but really cute.
Today Píla visited us and was nosy about the horses. Aldís seemed to be as interested in her as you can see on the pic.

Riding clinics

We were so lucky to get Aðalheiður Anna Guðjónsdóttir north for weekend ridingclinics.
Aðalheiður graduated from the University of Hólar as a horsetrainer and ridingteacher and works at the breedingfarm Króki/Margrétarhóf in the South.
Alltogether 10 girls/ladies attented the lessons (no idea if the guys don't need lessons or are just not willing to let a young lady tell them what and how to do).

Saturdaymorning we "showed" our horses in all gaits and Aðalheiður tried all of them to get a better view on the possible problems and where we had some work to do. During lunchbreak we got delicious focaccia bread, cinnamon rolls and chocolate cake, whilst we were spending attention to a lecture about the rider's seat and why dressage is important for all horses.
In the afternoon we worked in groups of 2, horses/riders with similar goals put together. Think all of us were rather sweaty.
Sunday we all got private lessons, which were very intense, a lot to do and think. In the end all of us got "homework" and good advise how to keep working with our horses.
Hope we can convince Aðalheiður to come back soon!

KEA-mótaröð - Fivegait

A few riders from here are taking active part in a competitionseries in the ridinghall in Akureyri. There you can compete in different classes according to your experience in sportstests. It's a single and teamtest and everybody can collect points for his team.
Ingólfur, Bjarni, Einar Viðir, Gisli, Thelma and Iðunn were competing this time, Jón Óli and I served as staffmembers. Jón Óli checking the equipment and I was a judges writer with the chiefjudge of the event. It was very interesting to get to know why the marks were they way they were, writing down a lot of comments from the judge, which the riders could have a look at later.
Luckily the storm was more or less over when we started our trip back home late in the night.

Thanks to Laufey for taking these pics!
