... at least almost. Today the cows at Laxamýri had their first day of summer, which means they were allowed to go outside for the first time this year. Usually they are hopping, running, rolling over and over all very excited. Fun to watch them. Thanks again for having us!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vordís and Þrá took their leaves today and went to the summerpasture. Pandóra and Hugleikur were anyway really busy making Fönix move and play. Things have been going really well the last days and we hope it'll stay like that. Ingólfur has to do most of the job as my knee is still not the way I'm allowed to do a lot of things around the horses. The mares were happy to arrive at Hagi and Vordís took the lead straight away. Better behave when she's around. But it will just be a short stop for her as both she and Flugsvinn are supposed to go to stallions in Skagafjörður later this summer. Vordís is going to meet Óskasteinn frá Íbishóli and Flugsvinn Hákon frá Ragnheiðarstöðum as we won a studfee earlier this year. Hope we'll get nice foals next year. Last but not least Ögn is going to meet Höfði frá Húsavík, who is owned by our friend Gísli.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's time to start Preschool for Hugleikur and Pandóra. Ingólfur walked the two of then and their mums up to the stable today. They'll stay together a few days and then we'll move the mares away and have Fönix as an uncle and anchor for them. They'll learn how to be haltered, tied and led, lift their hooves and be groomed and last but not least how to walk into a trailer. Looking forward to seing what kind of learners they are.

 

 

 

 

Wow it's amazing how time's flying! Ingólfur's nice had her confirmation today and we of course made the cake or cakes to be true. Think she really enjoyed her day with friends, family and a huge amount of presents.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dagur, the farmer at Hagi, stopped keeping sheep last autumn, so we were able to move the first horses to the summerpasture earlier than the last years. The first ones were Kóngur and Rögnir, who immediatly went off to see where the best grass was. In a second trip we moved Ögn and Flugsvinn, which very greeted by the guys, but not so happy about all the attention. Of course we dewormed them and trimmed their hooves before moving. Soon we'll move the rest, too.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lambing season is in full swing and the oldest ones are already marked and eartagged and were allowed outside with their mums.
Snilld and her boys were no exception and greeted me on the meadow close to the sheep stable. Kvíka and her family where there, too. They are all looking great and of course got some treats.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well, it wasn't a warm welcome the horses got when getting back home from Ísólfsstaðir and joining the others. Yesterday Fönix and Snerpa arrived and got chased quite a bit and today it was Ösp and Skuggi. Things will settle the next days and there's enough room for everybody.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I got myself 3 miniorchids at IKEA a little bit than a month ago and could see, they weren't in the best growing substrate.  In fact it was rather dense, which doesn't suit epiphyts at all as they like to have airflow around their aerial roots. The roots of one were already rotten and it had to go to the "orchid hospital" after removing everything that was dead. I hope it'll recover and get new aerial roots soon. The two others got new, handmade pots I designed and crafted for them. The pots are made from coconut shells and rope. I quite like the outcome and hope the orchids will use the opportunity to grow their roots through the holes.

 

 

Wow, already 4 years old! How time flies... We visited the birthday girl today and of course she got some extra treats. We'll take her and Fönix home soon as they'll spend the summer with out riding horses to get/keep them in shape. Not going to risk getting her obeese on fat grass during summer. The plan is to send her for training in autumn and then she should be in good shape.

 

 

That's something you usually don't see that often here in Iceland, so we were rather surprised to see a group of people in wetsuits at the beach where we use to ride. Of course we were nosy and drove closer to have a look what was going on. They were wading into the rather rough sea, climbing on their surfboards and trying to stand all the way to the beach. Some were rather good at it, other still at the very start. 
Afterwards we had another look at Snilld and her boys and of course the other cuties in the sheepstable. Lot of hopping and running around. The boys already got their eartags and in September we'll be looking for the fat, gray rams with the numbers 13 & 14.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Snilld got her lambs today and we went in the evening to have a look. Of course she got two little rams, what else ;) These are her lambs nummer 11 and 12 and of those 12 lambs she only had 3 girls, but 9 boys. Looks like she's taking care of not getting replaced...
Anyway she got 2 adorable gray rams, which she's taking good care of. Hope they'll stay healthy and grow well.

 

 

After spending a lot of time thinking about how to finish our windshelter we decided to use pressure impregnated decking boards as they won't rot away that easily and the horses don't like to nibble on them. Additionally we don't have to paint them straight away. 
Today we fetched the materials needed, cut down the boards and started to mount them. Unfortunately the batteries of our cordless screwdriver were empty after about 1 1/2 walls. So we'll have to continue soon to finish it. But so far everything looks good!

 

 

 

 

at least in Iceland. It's not always the warmest day, sometimes even snowing, but this year the weather was just beautiful, still and warm.
Last year we decided to have a ride on the beach and to repeat it this year. Well, first we thought nobody would take part as, when we arrived at the beach to take pics, there were just 2 trailers with 3 riders alltogether. Those 3 started early and were already on the way back when they met the others that had arrived slightly later. The early birds decided to join the rest and rode back the whole beach. After a short break we saw the riders were not heading back the beach, but riding into the fields above. In their opinion the beach wasn't good enough that day and decided to ride all the way back to Húsavík and meet for coffee in one of the stables. I had a lot of fun stopping here and there trying to getting good pics of the group.
Hope there'll be a ride like that again next year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A few fellow horseowners and riders decided to have a change of environment, put their horses on trailers and go for a ride on one of the mudroads nearby. I followed with my cam and enjoyed the beautiful weather whilst waiting for a good shot. Think both horses and riders enjoyed the ride, lots of happy faces. Hjördís came for a short visit in her Easterholiday. She'll leave again after a few days as she had planned to spend Easter in London (first time!). Today she and her dad went for a nice ride whilst I was waiting to get a photoopportunity (which I got in the end). Afterwards we met the youngsters and Kóngur, Hjördís' young gelding, got some special treats from his owner.
I'm still on crutches, but already allowed to use my leg.
