As the riders in Saltvík are always ready to go for a ride and have fun we went today to Kaldbakstjörn to take a ride on the thick ice. Yesterday the riding club had cleaned a track and so people could train there horses there.
Óli, Svanhildur, Thelma, Dagný Anna, Sara and we decided to take a ride and try the ice. Laufey and Sígrún went by car and took the camera with them to take some pics.
When we arrived we met other riders from the Húsavík stables, which were already training and taking pics and videos...
The horses were willing and eager to go and had as much fun as we had on the ice. We were quite fast on the way back, everybody looking forward to come home and take a rest. 

In the afternoon we packed our things together and put the horses in the trailer to go for a visit in Helluland. Kiddi had made a track on the ice on one of his meadows which is regularly flooded in wintertime. The ice is about 50cm thick and with the meadow underneath, there is no danger of taking an undesired bath.
The horses were fresh and eager to do something. In the beginning they were a bit careful about where to go, but after a few minutes they felt secure enough to tölt, trott and even gallop on the ice. Everything was perfect except for the weather... Rain is not exactly the weather we had hoped for. Nevertheless did I take some pics.

Our promising young stallion Huginn frá Húsavík died today in the afternoon after 6 days of sickness. We found him last friday looking not so well in the field and took him home to let the vet have a look at him and nurse him back. Unfortunately our efforts did not pay and he closed his eyes forever while we were with him in the stable.

Ketill, a young gelding out of Kormákur frá Flugumýri and Fluga frá Bjarnastöðum, is showing himself very well after just a few weeks of training.
If you are looking for future breedinghorses it's absolutely worth to have a look at the 2 daughters of Geisli frá Sælukóti and the young stallion Glaumur! The 2 young mares have excellent, high movements and present themselves really nice.

Unfortunately it was not possible for Farsæll to stay in his herd any longer so we moved him to Garður where he can stay with other stallions for the rest of the winter. Catching and moving went fine without big trouble (ok, he was not soooo eager to go into the trailer) and in Garður he was really eager to get to know the other horses. Gummi and Enrice had planned to take 2 stallions out of this group and so we helped them to catch them and get them on the trailer (the second one was not so keen to be taken, it took quite some time to get him).
We hope that Farsæll will have a nice stay in Garður with his new friends!

It was our travelday today and so we had to get up at 3.30 to be at the airport on time as the plane was leaving 7.05. When we had to say Goodbye to my parents it was quite difficult and if possible, I'd just taken them with me.
The flight to Stockholm was calm and passing fast, we had just nice flightweather. 4 hours break in Stockholm, which we filled with playing cards, having a look in the shops and taking a good rest. Our flight to Keflavík departed a bit earlier than expected, but that was just right for us. We had interesting in-flight entertainment, everybody just choosing what he wanted to watch and sleeping over it
In Keflavík Berglind and Valli were already awaiting us and a bit surprised, how heavy our luggage was.
After saying Goodbye to Hjördís we travelled back north, met Ína, Ingólfur's sister, and her family on the way and arrived in Húsavík under the shine of beautiful northern lights. Unfortunately I don't know the handbook of my new camera by heart and so I didn't even try to take pics... But I promise, I'll try as soon as possible!
